Rocky Moutain National Park

The first national park we visited was Rocky Mountain NP in Colorado. Our visit in June was mostly cold and rainy. We hiked just under 17 miles which included strolls like Sprague Lake and Adams Falls and longer hikes like Dream Lake, Lake Haiyaha, The Pools, Loch Vale and Mills Lake. The park and surrounding area have very active wildlife and we saw a lot of elk and moose.

Hikes:

Sprague Lake is a short stroll that has great views. We enjoyed the picnic area at the trail head.

Dream Lake is a popular hike we paired with Lake Haiyaha. Parts of the trails were still covered in snow so we used our micro spikes and trekking poles for stability.

We also paired Loch Vale and Mills Lake hikes together for a total of 7 miles filled with sun, rain, hail, snow, and mud. These trails were less crowded.

Our last day in the park we drove through the alpine on Trail Ridge Road. Within minutes weather changed from low visibility fog to bright and sunny.

Lodging:

Over the course of a week we stayed at Beaver Reservoir, Roosevelt National Forest, and Arapaho National Forest.

safe travels,

LoJo
